A virtual tour of CEDIA Expo 2025

The CEDIA1 Expo (https://cediaexpo.com/) is intended for integrators who combine audio/video and home automation products from manufacturers to offer custom solutions. Their market ranges from high-end to the elite with some budgets in the millions of dollars for home theaters. Attendance at CEDIA Expo 2025 last September in Denver increased about 15% from 2024.

As I toured the show, I sought the unusual among the typical assortment of audio/video and automation equipment. Many audio manufacturers told me they sell equipment to fill a space with sound that is better than typical supermarket music, but not audiophile quality. I looked for products with unusual features, such as size and design aesthetics.

I’ll let the photos and descriptions tell the product stories. Quoted text is from manufacturer web sites.

Huge Speakers (www.wisdomaudio.com)

“Wisdom Audio was founded in 1996 with one goal in mind, to create the world’s finest loudspeakers unbound by the limitations of current technologies and past design. Our pioneering use of large-scale thin film planar-magnetic transducers, electronic crossovers in place of passive designs, and innovative woofer designs were all developed to solve problems inherent in the limitations of traditional designs and how they interact with the listening room. The result is an experience like no other.

“Our passion to provide high-end expressions of our art encompasses contemporary home entertainment requirements including multi-channel designs. Whether your interest is in traditional two-channel music reproduction or multichannel music and film playback, there is a Wisdom system to address your needs.”

Infill speakers for whole-home audio (www.dioconnect.com)

“At Dio, we’re excited about the power of audio. With audio, you can connect to the world without ever having to spare your eyes, your attention, or even your time. You can listen in the shower, listen while driving, listen alongside chores…really, you can listen anywhere, at any time, and with anyone. And at Dio, we’ve finally made it simple to unlock the full power of audio by giving you the ability to listen in one place or many, through one speaker or many, all in an affordable and easy way.”

Dio describes this product as consumer grade. The target customer listens to audio several hours a week but does not have whole-home audio. Dio delivers “lossless audio without compression” using a four-inch speaker. Dio is a Wi-Fi multi-room speaker priced less than $100 without voice recognition (it is not a “smart speaker” with a built-in microphone). It uses Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth because Bluetooth does not do multi-room and is compressed. Multiple Dio speakers can be synchronized using UPnP (Universal Plug-and-Play).

Dio is designed for a middle market between an MP3 player and audiophile equipment. It is positioned in the market for multi-room, but not high end. According to the company founder Dio Node could be added as a companion to Sonos.
