This report evaluates the economic, social, and political impacts of incorporating water‑efficient technologies in new UK housing developments. Using economic modelling, a poll of 4,000 adults, and qualitative research, it shows how water scarcity—especially in Southeast England—limits housing growth and may cost the UK economy £25 billion over five years. The analysis suggests that adopting water‑smart design could recover £20 billion of that value. Public attitudes show strong support for rainwater reuse and other approaches that reduce water bills and improve supply resilience.
